Artist's Comments

Done in art class. The assignment was to combine a mechanical and an organic object (though I combined 2 organic objects: the apple and the skull ^^;) to create a certain meaning.

I titled it Biting Into Bleeding Solace because the skull with the innards of the music box represents one who is brainwashed by the pressure of an external source (such as the media, the "cool" kids, etc.), and when one tries to go back to who they were before (hence, biting into the apple), they fail to recollect who they really were (symbolized by the blood).

This was a really fun project to do. The skull is actually a REAL skull, provided by my art teacher, who obtained it from the biology department when they didn't need it anymore because it was so old. And I got to bring in my bottle of fake blood and dribble it over the fake apple so I could draw the blood. :D

The only thing we've actually drawn from are either pictures or a book =\

The teacher does focus a lot on creativity though, which is nice, albeit sometimes she makes everyone do a huge amount of realism and it is kind of an offset for some people.
